What
can I say? Not the best of years for me and I'm so glad
it's over. I never thought I would be in a position
like this and it's quite a shock. However, I know the
reasons and they don't worry me too much; some were
out of my control and some I just didn't react to soon
enough.
I have lots of excuses for my poor play this year. It's
quite obvious, even more so looking back. Basically,
ill health, poor driving, poor scheduling and some slow
decisions cover all the angles, but I'm not going to
go into them. I'm sure you don't want to hear them and
I am certainly bored of talking about them so let's
look to the future and to things that I can control.
I have made some poor decisions this year and they have
cost me. It is up to me to rectify them now and get
things in line for January. The longer I am on tour
the more I realise that it's the decisions you make
off the course that control the quality of golf on the
course, good or bad. I now know this and will learn
from it. I am very clear in what I need to do in order
to be where I should be and trust me when I say by the
time January rolls around things will be in place to
press on.
In the words of a friend of mine, "You have all
the information now, it's up to you to decide what and
how to use it". I have searched in every corner
of the golfing world and into other worlds to figure
out my golf swing. This is how you become the best but
it is also very hazardous. Unfortunately, I went a bit
too far and only figured that out now that I have found
the answer, which I believe I have. But you live and
learn. It's time to trim it all down, simplify, take
the good stuff, eradicate the bad, and come out stronger
than ever. This is what I believe is going to happen
and I can't wait to get going!
First I need to put my feet up and recover from the
longest season I have endured. I will not be going to
Qualifying School, instead I will be going to the States
to be violated by a hose and have some follow-up tests
with the doctor that I have been putting off since June.
The most important thing right now is to for me to get
back to full fitness which hopefully won't take too
long so I can come out fighting in January down in South
Africa.
I will be playing from my existing category on tour
next year, it won't get me as many starts as I am used
to but I feel if I am fit I will be able to do well
enough from those tournaments.
I am really looking forward to spending some time with
my wife in our new house and focusing on what is truly
important, which certainly isn't golf. It's only a game
and it's not life or death; easy to say but harder to
believe at times. One day when I find some balance it
may well just bring exactly what I thought it was hindering!
The only thing left to say is a big thank you for everyone's
support this year, it really does mean a lot. I wish
you all a fantastic holiday season, have fun and enjoy
your time with your families.
