WILSON'S 'STEADY WEEKS TO GREAT ONES' AIM // 28th March 2007

Oliver Wilson is looking for the form which will turn steady weeks into a great ones.

The 26-year-old former Walker Cup player has found some consistency this season but is still waiting for his maiden victory on the European Tour.

A few weeks back he lost in a play-off to the Johnnie Walker Classic in Thailand. "That was nearly a great week," he said while preparing for the Estoril Open de Portugal at the Oitavos Golfe, Quinta da Marinha, which starts tomorrow in Portugal.

"And it was all because the putter was working."

Wilson, who is attached to Coxmoor, has been slowly making his way up the Volvo European Ranking and the World Rankings.

After last week's Madeira Islands Open BPI, he lies 23rd on the European Rankings, a drop of one place despite finishing tied 25th and, ironically, he has moved up three places to 204th on the world list.

"I want to get as high up the World Rankings as I can," he said. "And I want to do it as quickly as I can."

This is Wilson's third year on the Tour and he has lost two championships in play-offs. "I've been very close twice and, in other tournaments I've been in contention, only to let things slip," he said.

"I know the game is there, it is just a matter of getting all the bits to work together for four days.

"I played very well from last September to October but I couldn't buy a putt. Consequently, I've worked very hard on my short game and I reckon it's all coming together.

"I making cuts regularly now and average weeks are becoming good weeks. I now need to make them great weeks - and on a regular basis."

Wilson has played nine tournaments so far this season. He missed the cut in the UBS Hong Kong Open but since then has been an ever-present on weekends of every tournament he has played.
