DIARY // OH SO CLOSE! // 26th May 2008

Well...what can I say? Apart from oh so close! Another runner up finish and the best result of my career, but it was so close to being a magical week. I felt I was on track for the title by putting myself in contention on the back nine of the final round and played solid golf. Unfortunately the bogey on seventeen was costly, but I knew I had a chance with the putt on the last. I hit a great putt but it didn't drop as I had hoped. On to the playoff, which felt like destiny in a sense and I thought this was my week. I had won that tournament so many times in my head and to have a 10-foot putt on the last for the title I felt there was no way I could miss. I hit a great putt which caught half of the hole and lipped out which proved to be costly as you have to take every chance you're given in a tournament of that quality. The second playoff hole I failed to find the fairway but managed to give myself a birdie putt to stay in it which unfortunately fell foul to the Wentworth greens.

It was hard to take afterwards as I kept thinking about the putt I had to win and I was truly amazed it didn't drop, but I have to take the positives from a great week and Monday morning things seemed a lot better than they did Sunday night. Up to 45th in the World and on the way to the Majors, which I now feel after the past week that I can compete in.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support, especially the spectators who were absolutely incredible. To have had that kind of support was truly amazing. It was like being at Wembley at times with so much home support.

Although I didn't win I feel I have forged my way onto new ground yet again and look forward to the journey. I believe it will just make that first victory all the sweeter.

My second charity day for D.A.R.E. will be held on August 18 at Hollinwell Golf Club and we will be auctioning off a chance for three guys to join me to take part in the day later this week. More details to follow soon on my website.
