The past two weeks have been up and
down. I managed to scramble it around
at Loch Lomond and scrape a top ten
for my efforts which I was very pleased
with. It gave me some momentum going
into the Open at Birkdale. However,
on Thursday morning it had an eerily
similar feel to Carnoustie the previous
year where the weather ended my chances
before my first Open had begun. I
was determined not to let that be
the case and got off to a good start
but had a bad spell in the middle
of the round where I dropped five
shots in four holes. After that I
regained my composure and finished
solidly with a somewhat respectable
77. I was disappointed; it would take
a good round on Friday but I was certainly
not out of it. Friday turned out to
be frustrating, a decent round but
nothing happened and a few poor tee
shots stopped me from hanging on to
the weekend. A 74 and homeward bound
again! I am very disappointed to not
have competed for the claret jug,
especially as the only thing holding
me back was my golf swing. My short
game was top notch and I felt very
comfortable at Birkdale all week.
I now move on to a week off where
I can rectify my swing and prepare
for a big two weeks in the states
at the Bridgestone WGC and the US
PGA where hopefully I can secure another
visit to the states in September!
