A PLAYER OF REAL SUBSTANCE // 17th March 2009

Oliver Wilson's first appearance at The Masters was always going to be an intriguing one since Augusta State College was his alma mater. But how nice for the Englishman to be going back as a player of real substance.

Yes, he's still not won a tournament. But, in following up his fine performance at the Accenture Match Play Championship last month - where he knocked out Anthony Kim - with a tied fifth finish on Sunday, the 28-year-old has shown that he belongs at the elite level.

Wilson was one of four Englishmen who finished in the top 20, the others being Ian Poulter, Justin Rose and Luke Donald.
