The Scottish Open at Loch Lomond
has been a really positive tournament
for me leading up to the British Open.
Last week was a pretty good week all
in all. The first day was a little
disappointing as I was a bit erratic
and dropped quite a few shots coming
in which left me with quite a lot
to do. After the week before in the
French Open I was quite frustrated
and down about my golf so it made
the 65 I shot on Friday, to make the
cut, all the more rewarding. I played
really solidly over the weekend hitting
a lot of greens and I have to say
that it was a really positive week
and a lot of good things have come
from it.
After the 1st round last week I started
to realise that I was putting far
too much pressure on myself trying
so hard to win and get into the lead
that I was making silly mistakes.
After 2 weeks of doing the same thing
it hit home and I went out on Friday
with a completely new attitude of
just trying to relax and enjoy it
and not caring too much - just trying
to get through and taking each shot
at a time. Concentrating on hitting
fairways and greens, I shot -6 quite
easily which was obviously the way
to go so I carried on with that attitude
all weekend and played really solidly.
I will keep the same technique and
attitude going forward into the British
Open and see what happens.
I'm obviously looking forward to heading
to the British Open this week moving
in the right direction. The French
Open wasn't a great tournament but
this week has been a lot better and
hopefully I can improve on it again
at the Open and try and get in to
contention and see what happens.
I arrived at Turnberry Sunday evening
after Loch Lomond so I have 3 days
now to prepare leading up to the British
Open. I have never been to Turnberry
golf course before so I need a few
practice rounds to get accustomed
and get back into the links golf again
and the wind and conditions that we
have to deal with. At the same time
I need to conserve some energy as
it will be the 3rd week on the spin
and I want to be in tip top shape
for the weekend.
