What a week,
it feels like I have been in Shanghai
for a month let alone just seven days.
Day 2 was rained off but due to the
nature of the event and the tournament
sponsors HSBC, it was important that
we played all four rounds. Looking
back on a personal note a 54 hole
event would have been better!
It turned out to be my 5th
runner up spot this year. I was very
pleased with how I played all week
and the putts I made on the back nine
on Monday which kept me in the tournament.
However, this is the most disappointed
I have been after missing out on my
maiden win. On a positive note I did
lose to the best player in the world
right now, new world number 2 Sergio
Garcia, and almost secured my spot
in the Masters next year.
The only way to really improve in
golf is by testing yourself in pressure
situations like contending on the
back nine on the final day. I am still
analysing last week, seeing what can
be improved and maybe what I should
have done differently. You have to
be very honest with yourself and the
only thing I can say is that I should
have been more aggressive on my lay
up on the 18th in regular play. The
pin was in a tough position and you
needed to be going in with a wedge
at the most. I left myself an awkward
distance and had to try and finesse
an 8 iron which was a dangerous shot
to that pin as it brought the water
into play just 15 feet behind the
flag. I didn't commit to the shot
and ended up leaving myself about
60 feet which left a testing two putt.
It has been a great start to the highly
anticipated Race to Dubai and I must
now press on and try and use the momentum
I have to get that first win before
my end of season break after Hong
Kong.
