DIARY // TIME OUT // 10th September 2009

Last week in Crans I was returning to historically my best professional event. I've been in the final group for the last 3 years and I've been in contention every year in one of my favourite places in the world. I was looking to end a 'winless drought' and my game was in ok shape going there. Again though, it was much the same as the last few weeks where I actually played quite poorly in the first couple of days. I managed to make the cut reasonably well, and had good finishes both Thursday and Friday, which turned the tournament around for me. Even though I wasn't right in contention, after Friday, I felt like a good weekend was still a probability and I still felt that I was able to win. I hadn't holed many putts; I holed a couple of long putts in the first few days, but after that I holed nothing at all. I actually started to play OK over the weekend, hit the ball a bit better, and found some form, but couldn't make a putt and ended up finishing quite far back in 23rd place, which was disappointing; but on the positive side, to play how I did and finish 23rd shows how far I have improved in the last few years.

I have made a lot of mental mistakes which has led to the decision of my pulling out of the Mercedes Benz championship this week. I think I need to go on holiday, get away from golf and clear my head a little bit, and come back fighting fresh and put on a strong finish to the season. I am obviously disappointed about not playing this week, but a break is what I need.

On Monday I have done a Hugo Boss Golf Day in Cologne - we had a great day playing on a beautiful course and staying with some guests, which was nice.

I am now taking some time out and going on holiday, and will be back just before the Seve Trophy, ready and recharged for what I hope will be a great Tournament.
