DIARY // NUMBER 9 // 06th October 2009

Well that will be number 9 and counting at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. I finished second, a couple of shots behind the eventual winner Simon Dyson who I partnered for the first 3 days.

Its been a while since I have been in contention so I was really pleased as I have put a lot of solid results together over the last couple of months but the games not been quite there and this week it was a lot closer. The work I have put in on my golf swing over the last few months with Hugh Marr is really paying off, so overall I am pretty pleased with how things went last week seen as though I didn't really have a chance at winning even though I got off to a great start I wasn't far off. Simon played brilliantly so I was always 3 or 4 shots behind him so second was pretty good in the end.

I partnered Marcus Allen who is an ex NFL MVP superstar, a bit of a legend in the game to say the least and Simon Dyson partnered Kelly Slater so that was great for the first few days, we all had a lot of fun and obviously me and Simon were playing well which helped.

Part of the reason I played great as well was that I changed the grip on my putter, which was a lot larger and really helped and I felt like I putted very solidly all week which converted a few more chances and got me right into contention so it proved a good choice.

Its obviously been a while since I finished second or been in contention so that was just what I needed and with that to do it at such a big event and the home of golf at St Andrews, walking up the last couple of holes with the adrenalin flowing, and being in contention was a brilliant experience and something I hope that I can replicate next year at the British Open.

The 2nd place managed to guarantee me a place in the Volvo World Matchplay in a few weeks which is brilliant as it was one of my goals earlier on in the season and it should have sown up the Masters for next year with my career high of 35 in the World Rankings.

So now I have a week off where I will relax, do a bit of practice and try and improve before I fly off to Portugal next week.
